MOVEMENT AND ART MAKING WORKSHOP
Partake in one or multiple workshops that combine yoga, exploration of a piece of art in the Des Moines Art Center, and calligraphy/lettering. Students will explore yogic techniques of pranayama, kriya and asana to create awareness of our energy and help our bodies and minds tune in for creative expression. Yoga practices will be held in gallery space among the art allowing inspiration as we then move to the studio for a calligraphy/lettering class. Each session will be hosted in a different gallery space with a different art inspiration. After ending our yoga practice, we will return to the education studio to start the calligraphy/lettering portion. There you’ll learn a lettering technique that connects to the museum artwork we observed. Using a variety of tools, we will create our own letters, all while incorporating our new sense of body movement and breath.

Please bring your own yoga props that support your practice (mat, cushions, blankets) and wear clothing that allows for comfort in movement. We will have chairs available as a seating alternative and the practices will include options to meet each practitioner where they are at with abilities in movement. All supplies will be provided for the calligraphy/lettering portion of the event. Scholarships for class and materials are available.
