BLACKLETTER, GOTHIC, AND ABSTRACT CALLIGRAPHY
This 4-week class will embrace themes, practices, and lore behind the musical genres of Doom, and Black Metal. A short lecture about Gothic, Blackletter, and Fraktur will be given. Students will create hyper-stylized letters for logos and/or names. Certain aspects of mixed media will be taught and can be used to create more dramatic effects adding to the rigidity of the letters/lettering. Abstract and experimental techniques using ink and unconventional tools will be taught and used to create nonconventional letters and works that fit the themes. Students are expected to bring their own materials. Scholarships for class and materials are offered as well.
